A mindful golfer is, above all, a conscious human being. More specifically, a mindful golfer
* considers the presence of other golfers
* considers the presence of wildlife and respects its needs for safety
* plays the game with honesty and integrity
* moves along, playing at a pace considerate of others following
* moderates the volume of one’s voice on the course
* is familiar with golf etiquette and follows it
* learns the emotional and spiritual lessons the game teaches
* allows the group ahead enough time to clear out before hitting your shot
* yells “fore” if a shot is endangering another golfer
* learns how to play before trying to play on a golf course
* uses golf as a meditation as well as recreation
* knows something of the history of the game
* honors the standards of behavior set by some of the game’s greats both on and off the course
* holds oneself and professionals to those standards
* realizes that in golf you never say never as good shots can always follow poor ones
* supports The First Tee, passing on golf’s virtues and values to children of all backgrounds
So enjoy the game. Learn from it. Pass it on to your children, nieces, and nephews. Be a mindful golfer.
